Huh. Never seen a shift pattern with "D" instead of "5".

Maybe an O with a D in it, for Overdrive?

That's not a "D," it's a "0." That's where neutral is. Haven't you ever driven a manual before?!

It's an O around the D; the 80s/90s symbol for overdrive. My 94 ranger had this symbol on the shifter.

Toyota pickup, maybe? I remember seeing these, just trying to remember where....

Usually an O/D is a separate device, unless they were marketing this as a 4-spd with an overdrive gear. Could be!

Neat! I never knew that. My '88 Cherokee just had 1 to 5.

Just another name for the highest gear (overdrive).
Same way automatics say "L" instead of first.

It's creepy how accurate you are from just looking at a shift knob.

When a mod recommends your post, the title gets huge

One of the few powers moderators have is the ability to make headlines and pictures bigger. =)
We (occasionally) use it for good...

Friend of mine who used to have a '94 F-250 called it the "Nutjob gear" because it was only useful at speeds so high that pretty much every curve was too tight (for a F250 at 130km/h of course).
But that may have something to do with the two turbos under the hood.
